Bear in mind that this guy is a dirty fuck who sticks needles filled with poison in his arm at every possible oppurtunity.
I doubt hygenic surroundings are a priority of his.
man this character is one dirty fuck. he sticks shit up his asshole without washin his hands, sticks his hands n his whole body in public shit, n then lets toilet shit water in his mouth, damn that dude is nasty
The filthiest toilet in Scotland — Probably in the whole U.K.
Nearly shit my pants myself when I saw this in the cinema. Excremental existential nirvana.
LOL. It is actually vile: I should Ewan must have gagged as well. Even though it is (presumably) a set and the toilet has been made to look disgustingly dirty…it is very realistic in the grimmest way possible.
The scene is a mix of realism and surrealism to emphasize Renton’s drug addiction and the extent to which his sordid life revolves around satisfying his drugs habit. The surrealism is clearly the diving into the toilet and swimming part. The realism is when he gets back to his apartment, soaking wet. The author intentionally leaves us to deduce for ourselves any number of more mundane reasons why he is wet: the most plausible? It rains a lot in Scotland and Renton does not own an umbrella.
This is a brilliant scene emphasizing - through stunning use of surrealism and symbolism - Renton’s drug dependence and the contrast between dream-like drug highs and the harsh reality of an addict’s real life.
Nah, heroin doesn’t make you trip like that. I think it’s purely symbolic. His last hit was wearing off anyways and the pills weren’t working so… he wouldn’t be smacked up at that moment anyhow.
LOL. I wonder where you would go if you actually fell down a toilet hole, assuming you were thin enough to fit through the plumbing.

So gross! Although, this isn’t worse than the deceased baby scene, which is very disturbing. Good movie.

KyoshoCrew,
my last comment was in response to you but the ‘reply’ function does not seem to have worked!
